2018 Subaru Outback

The 2018 Subaru Outback is a wagon version of Subaru’s mid-size Legacy sedan. It has the brand’s signature all-wheel-drive as standard and features a raised suspension and exterior cladding for added versatility and a rugged appearance. Prices start at an MSRP of $28,895. Shoppers who like the Outback but don’t need so much space should check out the compact Subaru Crosstrek.

Pros: Efficient 4-Cylinder Engine, Smooth Ride, Roomy Interior

Cons: No Hybrid, No Third Row, Available 6-Cylinder Doesn’t Get Great MPGs, Cabin Noise

Looks Best In: Tungsten exterior/Warm Ivory interior

Competition: Buick Regal TourXFord Flex, Nissan Murano, Nissan Rogue, Volkswagen Tiguan

Summary: The 2018 Subaru Outback offers similar interior space and better efficiency than many mid-size SUVs. Its raised ride height allows for a very absorbent suspension, however a lack of sound-deadening is disappointing and could make long hauls at highway speeds rather unpleasant. However, if you mostly drive around town the extra noise that comes into the cabin will be imperceptible.
